Diploma level qualification in Wines and Spirits
WineMatters has been running the Wine and Spirits Education Trust Diploma since 2001, as well as courses leading to the WSET Intermediate and Advanced Certificates since 1996, We have already achieved considerable success at Diploma level and are well regarded by the WSET as an effective course provider.
WineMatters aims to provide for students with a wide range of interests. On our Diploma courses to date we have had both enthusiastic amateurs and people working in the drinks industry, sponsored by businesses such as the Oxford Wine Company, Stevens Garnier and Vintage Roots.
The Diploma is the highest of the qualifications awarded by the WSET. It is a qualification that has worldwide recognition and there are centres in a number of other countries running the Diploma. So far as the UK is concerned, the only higher qualifications available are a degree in wine and, obviously, the Master of Wine. In terms of the national qualifications framework, the Diploma counts as Level Four.
Prerequisites: Advanced level course.
Learning Outcomes: The WSET describes it is as being designed to give specialist knowledge of the principal wines and spirits of the world, combined with commercial factors, and a thorough system for the professional evaluation of wines. Although primarily designed for those working in the drinks industry or in other work requiring a knowledge of wines and spirits, the Diploma is taken by many enthusiastic amateurs, who make up around one-thirds of all Diploma students. And for them, our experience is that Diploma really does provide in-depth knowledge which makes the world of wine even more fascinating and enjoyable.
